Becka Brown: music

The Very Edge

(Becka Brown)
Becka Brown
Well, this was written from a very dark place, but it is actually about hope. It is a quiet, desperate plea for understanding. Still, it declares that I will hold on and never just "let go". A lot of people have told me this has helped them get through the worst. That alone makes me so happy. the other thing that made me happy when we recorded it was Gary Burnette's insanely beautiful, mournful guitar work.
the very edge

i'm on the very edge of the face of the earth,
and i just wanted you to know if i should fall down,
the currents cause me to drown,
that I would never just let go

i'm holding on for love of breathing
my strength is gone, though, and
my aching hands are bleeding
still holding on, but i feel the slipping
farther away farther away

here on the very edge of the face of the earth
oh i dare not look below
if something goes wrong, then i was not all that strong
but i would never just let go

i'm crying out - can someone hear me
oh, i can’t tell
how do i spell this out more clearly
can't cry out loud is my voice fading
away farther away

here on the very edge of the face of the earth
it's imperative you know if things should turn out bad
i gave it all that i had, but i would never have let go
no, i would never heve let go
no i would never just let go oh, no
i would never just let go let go
i’m holding on
never just let go
